What’s life like for a cow in the dairy industry? And what it is like to dedicate one’s life to the animals and start a farm sanctuary? Former dairy farmer Jan Gerdes did exactly that and started Hof Butenland, the first cow retirement home together with his Partner Karin Mück. Production for Butenland started in 2016 and in 2019 the film won the Granit documentary award at the 53rd Hof International Film Festival and the Grand Prize for best film at the Internatinal Vegan Film Festival 2020.
